This technological breakthrough has the potential to accelerate the global transition towards sustainable ambulance care.

This world-first has been made possible through the combination of Envecotricity’s unique patented electric motor technology and the development and testing expertise of Motonext and the Ten Kate Racing team, internationally renowned as the world’s fastest laboratory for the development and validation of innovative vehicle technologies.

A recently completed feasibility study confirms that the ambulance meets all medical, operational and regulatory requirements. By combining natural fibre composites, upcycled materials and an innovative electric powertrain, the vehicle also achieves an approximately 90% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to a conventional ambulance.

The project is an initiative of Motonext and stems from the conviction that proven technology from international motorsport can help solve major societal challenges. At the request of UMCG Ambulancezorg, the feasibility study was carried out by Germany’s Envecotricity and the HAN University of Applied Sciences. Their conclusion is clear: a fully electric ambulance capable of delivering the same performance as a conventional emergency vehicle is both technically and practically feasible.

“For years, a fully electric ambulance capable of meeting all operational requirements of emergency medical services was considered impossible. By combining our motorsport expertise, Envecotricity’s unique patented electric motor technology and the knowledge of our consortium partners, we have demonstrated that it can indeed be achieved.

Motonext was founded to accelerate the transfer of proven technology from elite motorsport into societal and industrial applications. The fact that we can simultaneously reduce environmental impact by around ninety percent makes this world first even more remarkable.

We are proving that sustainability and top-level performance are not mutually exclusive—they reinforce one another.”

– Kervin Bos & Peter Schorer, founders of Motonext

The fully electric ambulance features:

  • A driving range of more than 350 kilometres;
  • A top speed exceeding 160 km/h, which can be sustained continuously for 20 minutes;
  • An innovative interchangeable battery cassette system, eliminating operational downtime for charging;
  • Full compliance with the requirements of the RDW and Germany’s TÜV;
  • A lightweight construction using natural fibre composites and upcycled materials, reducing lifecycle CO₂ emissions by approximately 90%.

From Motorsport to Society
Motonext translates proven technology from international motorsport into societal and industrial applications. Ten Kate Racing serves as the real-world laboratory where innovations are developed, tested and validated under the most demanding conditions imaginable.

Envecotricity’s patented electric motor technology is the key enabler of this world-first, delivering performance levels that have previously been unattainable for fully electric emergency response vehicles.

WERELDPRIMEUR: Unieke Nederlands-Duitse motorsporttechnologie maakt lang onmogelijk geachte elektrische ambulance werkelijkheid

Persbericht

– Kervin Bos & Peter Schorer, initiatiefnemers Motonext

De elektrische ambulance beschikt onder meer over:

  • een actieradius van meer dan 350 kilometer;
  • een topsnelheid van meer dan 160 km/u, die gedurende 20 aaneengesloten minuten kan worden volgehouden;
  • een innovatief systeem met uitwisselbare accucassettes, waardoor operationele wachttijden voor het opladen verdwijnen;
  • volledige conformiteit met de eisen van RDW en de Duitse TÜV;

  • UMCG Ambulancezorg;
  • Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG);
  • New Born Rubber;
  • Visser Leeuwarden;
  • Team Ten Kate Racing.
