This weekend marks the sixth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Located on the Adriatic coast, the circuit is a home track for Stefano Manzi, who is eager to perform in front of his home crowd after a difficult weekend in Most. For Yuki Okamoto, the Italian circuit is also familiar territory.
Almost a month after the race weekend at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic, the World Superbike Championship is back in action at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. On the calendar since 1991, Misano is often one of the most attended WorldSBK race weekends of the year.
Despite a challenging weekend in Most, Stefano Manzi still leads the World Supersport Championship standings with a total of 185 points—40 more than his closest rival. As in previous rounds, the primary goal will be to extend that lead. For Manzi, who hails from nearby Rimini, this will be a special weekend, with many family members and friends cheering him on from the stands.
Yuki Okamoto also had a tough time in Most, partly due to the changing weather conditions. However, the Japanese rider has shown clear progress and will aim to bring home points again at a circuit he has visited before.
Stefano Manzi:
“Finally it is time to race again. The last round in Most definitely wasn’t the best one for us, it was a shame to end the weekend with a sixth place. However, this is racing and sometimes things like this can happen. Now we reset ourselves and go to the next race in Misano fully focused. In this break I had a test with the Yamaha Superbike and I enjoyed it a lot, but now I’m really looking forward to ride the R9 again at my home track.”Yuki Okamoto:
“I am looking forward to the Misano round. It will not be my first visit as I raced there previously in 2019. “After Assen, Misano is almost like our second home race of the year with Stefano as one of our riders. A lot is happening this weekend, and we’re set to welcome many sponsors and partners once again. Yuki has spent a lot of time training in Spain over the last few weeks, which helped him maintain his rhythm well. Stefano has also been very active on different bikes in the past few weeks. The team has prepared everything down to the finest detail, and we’re excited to get back to racing this weekend.”
The race weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli begins on Friday morning with a free practice session, followed by Superpole at 13:55 in the afternoon. Saturday kicks off with a warm-up session, and Race 1 over 18 laps will start at 12:35. Sunday follows the same schedule, with a morning warm-up and Race 2 again at 12:35 in the afternoon.
Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing keert terug naar Italië voor Manzi’s thuisrace in Misano
Dit weekend wordt de zesde ronde van het FIM Supersport World Championship verreden op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Het aan de Adriatische kust gelegen circuit is het thuiscircuit van Stefano Manzi, die na een moeizaam weekend in Most graag wil presteren op eigen bodem. Ook voor Yuki Okamoto is het Italiaanse circuit geen onbekend terrein.
Bijna een maand na het raceweekend op het Autodrom Most in Tsjechië komt het World Superbike kampioenschap dit weekend weer in actie op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Al sinds 1991 staat het Italiaanse circuit op de kalender en is het vaak één van de meest bezochte WorldSBK raceweekenden van het jaar.
Ondanks een lastig weekend in Most staat Stefano Manzi nog steeds aan de leiding in het World Supersport kampioenschap met een totaal van 185 punten, 40 meer dan zijn naaste rivaal. Net als in de voorgaande raceweekenden zal het voornaamste doel zijn om deze voorsprong verder uit te bouwen. Uiteraard zal het voor Manzi, die uit het nabijgelegen Rimini komt, een speciaal weekend zijn met veel familie en vrienden die hem komen aanmoedigen.
Yuki Okamoto had eveneens een moeizaam weekend in Most, mede vanwege de wisselende weersomstandigheden. De Japanse coureur laat echter wel duidelijke vooruitgang zien en zal, op een voor hem bekend circuit, als doel hebben om weer punten mee naar huis te kunnen nemen.
Stefano Manzi:
“Eindelijk is het weer tijd om te racen. De laatste ronde in Most was zeker niet onze beste, het was jammer om het weekend af te sluiten met een zesde plaats. Maar dit is racen, en soms gebeuren zulke dingen. Nu herpakken we onszelf en gaan we volledig gefocust naar de volgende race in Misano. Tijdens deze pauze heb ik getest met de Yamaha Superbike en dat vond ik erg leuk, maar ik kijk er nu echt naar uit om weer met de R9 te rijden op mijn thuiscircuit.”Yuki Okamoto:
“Ik kijk uit naar de ronde in Misano. Het wordt niet mijn eerste bezoek, want ik heb daar al eerder geracet in 2019. Ik heb hard gewerkt om me voor te bereiden op dit raceweekend, dus ik kijk ernaar uit om weer bij het team aan te sluiten en aan de slag te gaan met de R9.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“Na Assen is Misano bijna onze tweede thuisrace van het jaar met Stefano als coureur. Er staat weer veel te gebeuren dit weekend en we mogen weer veel sponsoren en partners ontvangen. Yuki heeft in de afgelopen weken veel getraind in Spanje, dus die heeft daar zijn ritme goed kunnen vasthouden. Stefano is eveneens zeer actief geweest de laatste weken op verschillende motoren. Het team heeft alles tot in de puntjes geprepareerd dus we hebben er zin in om dit weekend weer te gaan knallen.”
Het raceweekend op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli begint op vrijdagochtend met een vrije training waarna de Superpole sessie vrijdagmiddag om 13:55 uur van start gaat. Zaterdagochtend is er eerst nog een warm-up sessie waarna Race 1 over 18 ronden ’s middags om 12:35 uur begint. Op zondag geldt hetzelfde tijdschema als op zaterdag met ‘s ochtends een warm up sessie en Race 2 ‘s middags om 12:35 uur.
