This coming weekend, the fifth round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will take place at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. Following a double podium finish at Balaton Park, Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing will once again be aiming for silverware with Can Öncü, while for Yuki Okamoto this weekend marks a return to familiar territory.
Autodrom Most has been part of the World Superbike calendar since 2021 and has since become a regular fixture in the championship. Despite its relatively short length of 4.2 kilometres, the Czech circuit features no fewer than 21 corners. It is a mix of slow hairpins and chicanes combined with several very fast corners, making it a highly varied and demanding challenge.
Can Öncü stood on the podium twice at Most last year with a second place and a victory, while he also left Balaton Park Circuit with two podium finishes. With the competitive Yamaha R9, all the ingredients are in place to close the gap to the leader in the world championship.
After a difficult weekend in Hungary, Yuki Okamoto returns to a circuit where he raced last year. For the Japanese rider, the key will be to regain the right feeling with the R9 and fight his way back towards the points-paying positions.
Can Öncü:
“I am very much looking forward to the upcoming round in Most. I am excited because I have prepared myself very well and the feeling with the team is very good. We have gained a lot of confidence so I am looking forward to start the race weekend. Last year I was very strong in Most so let’s hope we have the pace again. The momentum on Can’s side is growing, so we expect him to be fighting for victory this weekend. We have been able to analyse everything from the race weekend in Hungary and have put together a strong plan for this coming weekend. Because of that, I’m really looking forward to getting started again this weekend. The team is confident and well prepared to deliver another strong result.”
The race weekend at Autodrom Most starts with a free practice session on Friday morning, followed by the Superpole session at 16:00 in the afternoon. After a warm-up session on Saturday morning, Race 1 will already get underway at 12:30. On Sunday, the usual schedule will be followed, with a morning warm-up session and Race 2 at 14:00.
Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing aast op meer succes in Tsjechië
Aankomend weekend wordt de vijfde ronde van het FIM Supersport World Championship verreden op het Autodrom Most in Tsjechië. Na een dubbele podiumfinish op Balaton Park zal Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing met Can Öncü opnieuw op jacht gaan naar eremetaal met Can Öncü, terwijl dit weekend voor Yuki Okamoto een terugkeer naar bekend terrein betekent.
Het Autodrom Most staat sinds 2021 op de World Superbike kalender en is inmiddels een vaste waarde geworden in het kampioenschap. Ondanks de geringe lengte van 4,2 kilometer telt het Tsjechsiche circuit maar liefst 21 bochten. Het is een mix van langzame hairpins en chicanes maar ook een aantal zeer snelle bochten waardoor dit circuit een zeer gevarieerde uitdaging biedt.
Can Öncü stond vorig jaar twee keer op het podium in Most met een tweede plaats en een overwinning, terwijl hij het Balaton Park Circuit eveneens verliet met twee podiumfinishes. Met de competitieve Yamaha R9 zijn daarmee alle ingrediënten aanwezig om de achterstand op de leider in het wereldkampioenschap te verkleinen.
Na een moeizaam weekend in Hongarije keert Yuki Okamoto terug naar een circuit waar hij vorig jaar wel heeft gereden. Het zal voor de Japanner zaak zijn om het juiste gevoel met de R9 weer te vinden en de aansluiting te vinden richting de puntenposities.
Can Öncü:
“Ik kijk enorm uit naar het komende raceweekend in Most. Ik heb er veel zin in, omdat ik me heel goed heb voorbereid en het gevoel binnen het team erg goed is. We hebben veel vertrouwen opgebouwd, dus ik kijk ernaar uit om aan het raceweekend te beginnen. Vorig jaar was ik erg sterk in Most, dus laten we hopen dat we opnieuw het tempo hebben. We zullen zien wat er dit jaar gebeurt.”Yuki Okamoto:
“De vorige ronde in Hongarije was voor mij erg teleurstellend. Dit weekend racen we weer in Most, een circuit waar ik erg graag rijd. Samen met het team blijf ik hard pushen voor een goed resultaat.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“Most is een circuit waar we graag komen. Er heerst goede sfeer en er is vaak veel publiek. Het momentum aan de kant van Can is groeiende dus we verwachten met hem dit weekend mee te kunnen strijden voor de overwinning. Voor Yuki zal het een weekend zijn om zich te revancheren na een zeer lastig weekend op Balaton Park, waar hij voor het eerst was. Most kent hij al wel en het is een circuit waar hij graag komt. We hebben alles van het raceweekend in Hongarije kunnen analyseren en een goed plan gemaakt voor aankomend weekend. Daardoor kijk ik er weer enorm naar uit om dit weekend aan de start te staan. Het team is zelfverzekerd en goed voorbereid om dit weekend weer te kunnen scoren.”
Het raceweekend op het Autodrom Most begint met een vrije training op vrijdagochtend waarna ’s middags om 16:00 uur de Superpole sessie van start gaat. Na een warm-up sessie op zaterdagochtend wordt ’s middags al om 12:30 uur de eerste race van het weekend verreden. Op zondag wordt het gebruikelijke programma gehanteerd met een warm-up sessie in de ochtend en Race 2 om 14:00 uur.
