Yuki Okamoto finished seventeenth in the first World Supersport race at the Autodrom Most on Saturday afternoon. The Japanese rider managed to qualify in the morning and impressively worked his way up from 26th on the grid. Stefano Manzi had a very strong start to the first race at the Czech circuit but crashed out in the seventh lap while leading.
After a difficult qualifying day on Friday, the first World Supersport race of the weekend took place on Saturday at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. Starting from fourth on the grid, Stefano Manzi had a great launch and quickly took the lead. The Italian came under heavy pressure from his rivals but defended well and managed to maintain his position at the front in the early stages.
Unfortunately, things went wrong in the seventh lap when Manzi lost the front of his Yamaha YZF-R9 in turn 16. He was able to pick the bike back up and rejoin the race, but it meant he could no longer score points. Nevertheless, Manzi remains the leader in the World Championship with a 36-point advantage, as his competitors were unable to fully capitalise on his misfortune. Manzi set the fourth-fastest lap time of the race, which means he will start Race 2 from fourth position again on Sunday afternoon.
Due to the changing weather conditions, Okamoto was unable to qualify for Saturday’s race on Friday. However, the Japanese rider managed to secure a spot on the grid during the warm-up session and started Race 1 from 26th. From there, the 25-year-old rider worked his way forward and eventually crossed the finish line in seventeenth place. Okamoto will start from the 26th place on the grid in Race 2 once again.

“Today I did my first laps in dry conditions on the Autodrom Most. We only had ten minutes in the morning warm up to qualify for Race 1, and fortunately I made it. However, it meant that I had to start from P26 on the grid and that made it very difficult, although I still managed to finish in 17th place. We need to make a plan for tomorrow and then hopefully we can perform better. I’m grateful to the team for their support.”Stefano Manzi (P26 / +4 laps):
“It’s a bad day for us because I crashed in today’s race. I made a small mistake with less pressure on the front brakes whilst hitting a bump, and therefore there was less load on the front tyre which I then lost. It’s a big shame because I was leading the race and felt very good. However, we need to keep our heads up high and come back stronger tomorrow. For now we will analyse everything and then tomorrow there’s another warm up and another race, in which we need to go forward.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager:
“Unfortunately, today was the day Stefano had his first zero of the season. We were leading the race and had prepared a solid race strategy. However, because he lost front of the bike, he was immediately out of contention for points. These things can happen, and we’ve managed to retain the lead in the championship. Stefano is still in top form, and everyone could see how fast he was. We’ll regroup and, as always, we’ll be back tomorrow.Yuki had a good race today. He had to come from far back, but in the end he was able to climb up to seventeenth place. Hopefully he can make the step into the points tomorrow. We want to continue the upward trend we’ve shown in the past few races, and hopefully that will result in some points tomorrow.”

Okamoto maakt opmars naar 17e plaats in Race 1, Manzi crasht vanuit leidende positie in Most
Yuki Okamoto is zaterdagmiddag als zeventiende gefinisht in de eerste World Supersport race op het Autodrom Most. De Japanner wist zich ’s ochtends te kwalificeren waarna hij vanaf de 26e positie uiteindelijk nog knap naar voren kwam. Stefano Manzi begon ijzersterk aan de eerste race op het Tsjechische circuit maar ging in de zevende ronde onderuit terwijl hij aan de leiding reed.
Na een lastige kwalificatiedag op vrijdag werd zaterdag de eerste World Supersport race van het weekend verreden op het Autodrom Most in Tsjechië. Vanaf de vierde plaats op de grid kwam Stefano Manzi goed weg en binnen enkele ogenblikken had hij al de leiding in handen genomen. De Italiaan werd flink belaagd door zijn concurrenten maar wist zich knap te verdedigen en hield in de openingsfase de koppositie vast.
Helaas ging het in de zevende ronde mis toen Manzi de voorkant van de Yamaha YZF-R9 verloor in bocht 16. De Italiaan kon de machine nog oppakken en zijn weg vervolgen maar het betekende dat er geen punten meer konden worden gescoord. Hoe dan ook staat Manzi nog aan de leiding in het wereldkampioenschap met een voorsprong van 36 punten doordat de concurrentie niet maximaal wist te profiteren. In de race reed Manzi de vierde snelste rondetijd waardoor hij opnieuw vanaf de vierde startplaats aan Race 2 mag beginnen op zondagmiddag.
Vanwege de wisselende weersomstandigheden had Okamoto zich op vrijdag nog niet gekwalificeerd voor de eerste race op zaterdag. De Japanner kreeg dat voor elkaar in de warm up sessie waardoor hij vanaf de 26e plaats op de grid aan Race 1 mocht beginnen. Vanaf die positie kwam de 25-jarige coureur uiteindelijk als zeventiende over de finish. Okamoto zal ook Race 2 weer vanaf de 26e plaats moeten beginnen.

“Vandaag heb ik mijn eerste ronden in droge omstandigheden gereden op het Autodrom Most. We hadden slechts tien minuten in de ochtend-warm-up om ons te kwalificeren voor Race 1, en gelukkig is dat gelukt. Dat betekende echter dat ik vanaf P26 op de grid moest starten en dat maakte het erg moeilijk, hoewel ik er toch in slaagde om als 17e te eindigen. We moeten een plan maken voor morgen en hopelijk kunnen we dan beter presteren. Ik ben het team dankbaar voor hun steun.”Stefano Manzi (P26 / +4 laps):
“Het is een slechte dag voor ons omdat ik vandaag gecrasht ben in de race. Ik maakte een kleine fout met minder druk op de voorremmen terwijl ik over een hobbel reed, waardoor er minder gewicht op de voorband zat en ik deze vervolgens verloor. Het is echt jammer, want ik leidde de race en voelde me erg goed. We moeten echter onze hoofden omhooghouden en morgen sterker terugkomen. Voor nu gaan we alles analyseren en morgen is er weer een warm-up en een nieuwe race, waarin we vooruit moeten.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“Helaas was vandaag de dag dat Stefano zijn eerste nulscore van het seizoen behaalde. We reden aan de leiding en hadden een goed strijdplan voorbereid. Doordat hij de voorkant van de machine verloor lag hij wat punten betreft meteen uit de wedstrijd. Zoiets kan gebeuren en we hebben de leiding in het kampioenschap behouden. Stefano verkeert nog steeds in bloedvorm en iedereen heeft kunnen zien hoe snel hij was. We gaan ons herpakken en zoals altijd zullen we er morgen weer staan.Yuki heeft vandaag een goede race gereden. Hij moest van ver komen maar kon uiteindelijk nog opklimmen naar de zeventiende positie. Hopelijk kan hij morgen de stap maken naar de punten. De tendens die we in de afgelopen wedstrijden hebben ingezet willen we voortzetten, en hopelijk resulteert dat morgen in een aantal punten.”
