Stefano Manzi qualified fourth on Friday afternoon for the first World Supersport race at the Autodrom Most. The opening day at the Czech circuit was largely defined by unpredictable conditions, which the Italian capitalised on with a bold strategy during the Superpole session. Teammate Yuki Okamoto had a clearly more difficult day and ended up 28th.
The first day of the Czech World Superbike round at the Autodrom Most began Friday morning with a wet track and fairly low temperatures. These created treacherous conditions where mistakes were easily made. In the afternoon the Superpole session was held, and track conditions were not much different.
Championship leader Stefano Manzi struck early, setting a 1’38.983 on slicks, which ultimately placed him fourth. The Italian made no mistakes, securing a strong starting position for Race 1 on Saturday afternoon.
Yuki Okamoto faced a tough day, as he not only had to deal with the tricky track conditions but also had to learn the complex layout of the Autodrom Most. A crash and the changing weather conditions meant he finished 28th on the timesheets.

“We had a pretty good day. We had some trouble with the weather as it started raining just minutes before both sessions. In the morning we didn’t use slicks and in the rain we were quite fast. In the afternoon I made the call to use slicks early on, which was quite tricky in the beginning with still some wet patches. It ended up being the right strategy and it resulted in a 4th place. Maybe we could have fought for pole position but the second row is okay. For sure I want to do better, but it’s definitely not bad to end the day like this.”Yuki Okamoto (P28 – 1’45.422 / +7,279):
“I am disappointed after today’s sessions. I want to say sorry to the team for my early crash in Free Practice. I wasn’t able to have a good performance in Superpole, because the track conditions were very difficult for me. “Mixed feelings for us after this first day in Most. Stefano performed very well in the Superpole session under conditions that were extremely difficult to assess. He kept a cool head, which shows that he is currently in very good form. He switched to slicks at the right moment and built up his qualifying session excellently. In the final lap he was on his way to pole position, but unfortunately, he couldn’t complete that lap due to traffic. To secure a second-row starting position in such conditions is just very good. He stayed out of trouble and he is ready to race. He has the speed in all conditions, so I’m confident he can be competitive tomorrow.For Yuki, it was a very tough day. It’s his first time riding here in Most, and he had an unfortunate crash during free practice, which cost him twenty minutes of the session. That means you’re constantly playing catch-up. Due to the changing conditions, he hasn’t qualified yet, so the challenge for tomorrow’s warm-up session is to ensure he gets on the grid. That’s the first step, and from there we need to keep building throughout the rest of the weekend.”
The first World Supersport race at the Autodrom Most over nineteen laps will start Saturday afternoon at 12:35h.
Manzi kwalificeert zich op tweede rij in Most, moeizame vrijdag voor Okamoto
Stefano Manzi heeft zich vrijdagmiddag als vierde gekwalificeerd voor de eerste World Supersport race op het Autodrom Most. De eerste dag op het Tsjechische circuit werd grotendeels gekenmerkt door wisselvallige omstandigheden, waarbij de Italiaan in de Superpole sessie met een gewaagde strategie gebruik van maakte. Teamgenoot Yuki Okamoto had een duidelijk moeizamere dag en eindigde als 28e.
De eerste dag van de Tsjechische World Superbike ronde op het Autodrom Most begon vrijdagochtend met een natte baan en behoorlijk lage temperaturen. Die zorgden voor verraderlijke omstandigheden waardoor een fout snel gemaakt kon worden. ’s Middags werd de Superpole sessie verreden en waren de baanomstandigheden niet heel anders.
WK leider Stefano Manzi sloeg vroeg toe en reed op slicks een 1’38.983, waarmee hij zich uiteindelijk als vierde zou kwalificeren. De Italiaan maakte geen fouten en zorgde daarmee voor een goede uitgangspositie voor Race 1 op zaterdagmiddag.
Yuki Okamoto zou een lastige dag tegemoet gaan, doordat hij naast de moeilijke baanomstandigheden ook nog eens het complexe Autodrom Most moest leren kennen. Vanwege een valpartij en de wisselvallige weersomstandigheden eindigde hij uiteindelijk als 28e op de tijdlijst.

“We hadden een redelijk goede dag. We hadden wat last van het weer, want het begon een paar minuten voor beide sessies te regenen. In de ochtend gebruikten we geen slicks en in de regen waren we behoorlijk snel. In de middag besloot ik al vroeg om slicks te gebruiken, wat in het begin best lastig was vanwege de nog natte plekken op het circuit. Uiteindelijk bleek dat de juiste strategie en het leverde een vierde plaats op. Misschien hadden we kunnen vechten voor pole position, maar de tweede rij is prima. Natuurlijk wil ik het beter doen, maar het is zeker geen slechte manier om de dag af te sluiten.”Yuki Okamoto (P28 – 1’45.422 / +7,279):
“Ik ben teleurgesteld na de sessies van vandaag. Ik wil mijn excuses aanbieden aan het team voor mijn vroege crash tijdens de vrije training. Ik kon geen goede prestatie neerzetten in de Superpole, omdat de omstandigheden op het circuit voor mij erg lastig waren. Ik hoop dat morgen een betere dag voor ons wordt.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“Gemengde gevoelens voor ons na deze eerste dag in Most. Stefano heeft zeer goed gepresteerd in de Superpole sessie onder omstandigheden die uiterst moeilijk in te schatten waren. Hij wist zijn hoofd hiel knap koel te houden en dat laat zien dat hij momenteel in een zeer goede vorm verkeert. Hij ging op het juiste moment naar slicks en bouwde zijn kwalificatie uitstekend op. In de laatste ronde was hij op weg naar pole position maar helaas kon hij die ronde niet afmaken wegens verkeer. Als je in zulke omstandigheden uiteindelijk een startplaats op de tweede rij bemachtigt is dat gewoon goed. Hij is uit de problemen gebleven en klaar om te racen. Hij beschikt over de snelheid in alle omstandigheden dus ik weet zeker dat hij morgen competitief kan zijn.Voor Yuki was het een heel zware dag. Het is voor hem de eerste keer dat hij hier in Most rijdt en kwam in de vrije training ongelukkig ten val, waardoor hij twintig minuten van de sessie verloor. Dat betekent dat je dan achter de feiten aanloopt. Vanwege de wisselende omstandigheden is hij nog niet gekwalificeerd dus is het de uitdaging voor morgen in de warm up sessie om ervoor te zorgen dat hij op de grid staat. Dat is de eerste stap, daarna moeten we verder bouwen in de rest van het weekend.”
De eerste World Supersport race op het Autodrom Most over negentien ronden gaat zaterdagmiddag om 12:35 uur van start.
