Stefano Manzi won the first World Supersport race at the Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary on Saturday afternoon. Midway through the race, the Italian took the lead and eventually crossed the finish line with a comfortable gap. It marks Manzi’s sixth victory of the season.
After qualifying sixth on Friday for the first World Supersport race at the Balaton Park Circuit, Manzi was allowed to start from fifth on the grid Saturday afternoon, as one of his competitors had been disqualified. From the second row, Manzi got off to a good start and immediately moved up to third position.
By the third lap Manzi had climbed to second place, after which he had to close the gap to the race leader. Once the Italian did so, he made a decisive overtaking move to take the lead and gave his rival no chance to strike back. Thanks to a fast and consistent pace, Manzi eventually crossed the line 3.8 seconds ahead, securing his sixth win of the season.
Manzi has now scored 269 points and holds a 50-point lead in the championship. Thanks to setting the fastest lap in Race 1, the 26-year-old rider will start from pole position in Race 2.

“It was a great race. Yesterday we were struggling a bit, but we were convinced we could have a strong race today. The team worked very hard to prepare ourselves in the best way possible, and this morning we made another step forward. I enjoyed this race a lot and because we rode the fastest lap, we will also start from pole position tomorrow. That is definitely an advantage with this tight and tricky first corner. “This was a textbook race! Yesterday was a challenging day, but by staying calm and composed, we were able to start so strong today. Stefano made a huge step forward, and the team managed to improve the bike in every session. We knew after qualifying that we were ready to race, and Stefano more than delivered. He rode very professionally and tactically, and in the end brought home the full 25 points. It looks like it might rain tomorrow so things could be shaken up again, but I’m confident we’ll perform well in those conditions too.”
The second World Supersport race at the Balaton Park Circuit will take place again on Sunday afternoon at 15:15.
Manzi behaalt overtuigende overwinning in eerste WorldSSP race op Balaton Park Circuit
Stefano Manzi heeft zaterdagmiddag de eerste World Supersport race gewonnen op het Balaton Park Circuit in Hongarije. Halverwege de race nam de Italiaan de leiding over waarna hij uiteindelijk met een comfortabele voorsprong als winnaar over de streep kwam. Het is al de zesde overwinning van het seizoen voor Manzi.
Nadat Manzi zich op vrijdag als zesde had gekwalificeerd voor de eerste World Supersport race op het Balaton Park Circuit mocht hij zaterdagmiddag vanaf de vijfde startpositie vertrekken, aangezien één van de concurrenten gediskwalificeerd was. Vanaf de tweede startrij kwam Manzi goed weg en schoof hij meteen op naar de derde positie.
In de derde ronde klom Manzi op naar de tweede plaats en vervolgens moest hij een gat naar de raceleider dichtrijden. Toen de Italiaan dit had gedaan nam hij met een overtuigende inhaalactie de leiding over en gaf hij zijn rivaal geen kans om terug te slaan. Dankzij een hoog en constant tempo kwam Manzi uiteindelijk met een voorsprong van 3,8 seconden als winnaar over de streep waarmee hij zijn zesde overwinning van het seizoen heeft behaald.
Manzi heeft nu 269 punten gescoord en zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap bedraagt 50 punten. Dankzij de snelste rondetijd in Race 1 mag de 26-jarige coureur in Race 2 vanaf pole position starten.

“Het was een geweldige race. Gisteren hadden we het een beetje moeilijk, maar we waren ervan overtuigd dat we vandaag een sterke race konden rijden. Het team heeft heel hard gewerkt om ons zo goed mogelijk voor te bereiden, en vanmorgen hebben we opnieuw een stap vooruitgezet. Ik heb enorm genoten van deze race en omdat we de snelste ronde hebben gereden, starten we morgen ook vanaf pole position. Dat is zeker een voordeel met die krappe en lastige eerste bocht. “Dit was een race uit het boekje! Gisteren hadden we een uitdagende dag, maar doordat we de rust en kalmte hebben bewaard zijn we vandaag zo sterk begonnen. Stefano heeft een gigantische stap gemaakt en het team heeft de motor in iedere sessie wat beter kunnen maken. We wisten dat we na de kwalificatie klaar waren om te racen en Stefano heeft dat uiteindelijk meer dan waargemaakt. Hij heeft heel professioneel en tactisch gereden, en uiteindelijk de volle 25 punten binnengehaald. Het lijkt erop dat het morgen gaat regenen dus dan worden de kaarten opnieuw geschud, maar ik ben ervan overtuigd dat we het in die omstandigheden ook goed gaan doen.”
De tweede World Supersport race op het Balaton Park Circuit gaat zondagmiddag opnieuw om 15:15 uur van start.
