Stefano Manzi qualified sixth on Friday afternoon for the first World Supersport race at the Balaton Park Circuit. Under very sunny and warm conditions, the Italian rider and the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team took to the Hungarian track for the first time, ultimately securing a second-row starting position.
After much anticipation, action finally got underway on Friday morning at the newly constructed Balaton Park Circuit. With ambient temperatures exceeding 30°C, the conditions were quite challenging, as the high track temperatures and fresh asphalt resulted in low grip levels.
Neither Stefano Manzi nor the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team had been to Balaton Park before, so the morning free practice session was primarily about learning the circuit. In the afternoon the pace had to be significantly increased for the Superpole session, which determined the starting grid for Race 1 on Saturday afternoon.
With a best lap time of 1’43.442, Manzi ultimately qualified sixth for the first race at the Hungarian track, securing a second-row start. Saturday is expected to bring similarly hot conditions to Balaton Park, presenting a significant challenge for both riders and machines.

“It was not an easy Friday for us as we struggled a lot. In the end we saved the day with a second-row start for tomorrow, so I’m quite happy about that. For sure, we need to make a couple of steps and improve our package ahead of tomorrow’s race, because we’re struggling more than normal. The fact that we didn’t test here before also didn’t help, which made it difficult for me to learn the track today and be competitive at the same time. “The first day at a sun-drenched Balaton Park Circuit is behind us – a new experience for the whole team, including Stefano. We wrapped up the first day well, ultimately with sixth position in Superpole. We’re very satisfied with that, especially since it’s our first time riding here. Both Stefano and the bike are improving and getting faster every session; we’re seeing consistent progress with each lap. Sixth place is in line with expectations, and we’re heading into tomorrow’s first race with a lot of confidence.”
Following a ten-minute warm-up session in the morning, the first World Supersport race at Balaton Park will take place over 18 laps, starting at 15:15 local time.
Manzi kwalificeert zich op de tweede startrij in Hongaarse hitte voor eerste race op Balaton Park
Stefano Manzi heeft zich vrijdagmiddag als zesde gekwalificeerd voor de eerste World Supersport race op het Balaton Park Circuit. Onder zeer zonnige en warme omstandigheden kwamen de Italiaan en het Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team voor het eerst in actie op het Hongaarse circuit, waarbij uiteindelijk een startplaats op de tweede startrij werd bemachtigd.
Na lang uitkijken begon vrijdagochtend dan eindelijk de actie op het nieuw aangelegde Balaton Park Circuit. Met een buitentemperatuur van meer dan 30°C waren de omstandigheden behoorlijk uitdagend op het Hongaarse circuit, waarbij de hoge asfalttemperatuur en het nog nieuwe asfalt ervoor zorgden dat het gripniveau laag was.
Zowel Stefano Manzi als het Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team was nog niet eerder op het Balaton Park Circuit geweest waardoor de vrije training in de ochtend vooral een kwestie was van het leren van de baan. ’s Middags moest het tempo meteen flink opgeschroefd worden in de Superpole sessie, waarin de startopstelling voor Race 1 op zaterdagmiddag werd bepaald.
Met een beste rondetijd van 1’43.442 kwalificeerde Manzi zich uiteindelijk als zesde voor de eerst race op het Hongaarse circuit, waarmee hij een startplaats op de eerste startrij heeft veiliggesteld. Op zaterdag zal het opnieuw zeer warm worden op Balaton Park, waardoor de coureurs en de machines een flinke uitdaging te wachten staat.

“Het was geen gemakkelijke vrijdag voor ons, want we hadden het behoorlijk zwaar. Uiteindelijk hebben we de dag gered met een start op de tweede rij voor morgen, dus daar ben ik best blij mee. We moeten zeker nog een paar stappen zetten en ons pakket verbeteren voor de race van morgen, want we hebben het zwaarder dan normaal. Het feit dat we hier van tevoren niet getest hebben, hielp ook niet – dat maakte het voor mij lastig om het circuit vandaag te leren kennen en tegelijkertijd competitief te zijn. We blijven in ieder geval ons best doen en hard werken om morgen sterk voor de dag te komen.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“De eerste dag op een zonovergoten Balaton Park Circuit zit erop, een nieuwe ervaring voor het hele team inclusief Stefano. We hebben de eerste dag goed afgewerkt met uiteindelijk de zesde positie in de Superpole. Daar zijn we zeer tevreden mee, vooral omdat het de eerste keer is dat we hier rijden. Zowel Stefano als de motorfiets worden elke sessie beter en sneller, we zien dat we iedere ronde blijven verbeteren. Een zesde plaats is daardoor volgens verwachting en we zien de eerste race van morgen met heel veel vertrouwen tegemoet.”
Na een warm-up sessie van tien minuten in de ochtend zal de eerste World Supersport race over 18 ronden op het Balaton Park Circuit om 15:15 uur verreden worden.
