Stefano Manzi finished third on Saturday afternoon in the first World Supersport race at MotorLand Aragón. The Italian was in contention for the victory for much of the race but had to settle for third place in the closing stages, mindful of his lead in the championship. Teammate Yuki Okamoto crossed the line in 25th position in his first race at the Spanish circuit.
In sunny and pleasant conditions, the first World Supersport race of the weekend took place on Saturday afternoon at MotorLand Aragón. Starting from seventh on the grid, Manzi got away well and immediately joined the leading group. The Italian remained within striking distance of the two frontrunners fighting for victory and eventually crossed the finish line in third. With the second-fastest lap of the race to his name, Manzi will start Race 2 from second on the grid.
Yuki Okamoto endured a difficult first race at the demanding MotorLand Aragón circuit, eventually finishing in 25th place. With the added experience gained on the Spanish track, Okamoto will line up 27th on the grid for Race 2.
Stefano Manzi (P3 / +3,236):
“This race was completely the opposite to what I expected. I expected to have a big front group but already from the first lap it was only Can and Valentin in the lead. I was able to follow them but in the end I didn’t have any rear tyre left, so it was difficult to stay near them. In the final two laps I had to back off a bit, and take home this third place. It’s still a very good result for the championship and I’m happy to be on the podium again.”Yuki Okamoto (P25 / +42,849):
“It was a very tough race for me. This morning I had a crash in the warm up session, and I want to thank the team for their hard work to repair my bike. Derde plaats voor Manzi in eerste World Supersport race op Motorland Aragón, Okamoto 25e
Stefano Manzi is zaterdagmiddag als derde geëindigd in de eerst World Supersport race op Motorland Aragón. De Italiaan streed lange tijd mee voor de overwinning maar moest in de slotfase genoegen nemen met de derde plaats, rekening houdend met zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap. Teamgenoot Yuki Okamoto eindigde als 25e in zijn eerste race op het Spaanse circuit.
Onder zonnige en aangename omstandigheden werd zaterdagmiddag de eerste World Supersport race van het weekend verreden op Motorland Aragón. Vanaf de zevende plaats op de grid kwam Stefano Manzi zeer goed weg en voegde hij zich meteen bij de kopgroep. De Italiaan had de hele wedstrijd zicht op zijn twee concurrenten die streden voor de overwinning, waarna hij uiteindelijk als derde over de finishlijn kwam. Manzi reed de op één na snelste rondetijd in deze eerste race waardoor hij Race 2 vanaf de tweede plaats op de grid mag beginnen.
Yuki Okamoto had een moeizame eerste race op het uitdagende Motorland Aragón waarbij hij uiteindelijk als 25e over de finish kwam. Met meer opgedane ervaring op het Spaanse circuit zal Okamoto opnieuw vanaf de 27e positie starten in Race 2.

“Deze race verliep totaal anders dan ik had verwacht. Ik had een grote kopgroep verwacht maar vanaf de eerste ronde waren het alleen Can en Valentin die de leiding namen. Ik kon hen volgen maar aan het eind had ik geen achterband meer over, waardoor het lastig was om in hun buurt te blijven. In de laatste twee ronden moest ik het tempo iets laten zakken en deze derde plaats veiligstellen. Het is nog steeds een heel goed resultaat voor het kampioenschap en ik ben blij dat ik opnieuw op het podium sta.”Yuki Okamoto (P25 / +42,849):
“Het was een hele zware race voor mij. Vanmorgen had ik een crash in de warm-up en ik wil het team bedanken voor hun harde werk om mijn motor te repareren. “Opnieuw een podiumplaats voor Stefano met een uitstekend gereden race. Het is een goed resultaat en we hebben genoeg data verzameld om de motor voor morgen te kunnen verbeteren. Ik weet zeker dat we hem morgen een beter pakket kunnen geven, en als de details kloppen dan kunnen we morgen de aanval inzetten. Voor Yuki is het een moeilijk circuit om in een raceweekend te leren en we zullen hem zoveel mogelijk helpen om morgen ook een stapje te kunnen zetten.”
De tweede World Supersport race over 15 ronden op Motorland Aragón gaat zondagmiddag om 12:35 uur van start.
