Stefano Manzi claimed victory in the first World Supersport race on Saturday afternoon at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The Italian rider made a strong charge from tenth on the grid and managed to win the race after several intense battles. With this fourth win of the season, the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing rider extends his lead in the championship to 62 points. Teammate Yuki Okamoto finished 24th in Race 1.
Due to a Superpole session on Friday afternoon that didn’t go as planned, Stefano Manzi had to start Race 1 from tenth position. However, the Italian kept his composure and after a very strong start and an excellent opening lap, he quickly moved up to third place. Manzi kept his cool and took the lead for the first time on lap seven. The leading group remained close, and the racing was fierce, but Manzi ultimately came out on top and crossed the finish line first at his home circuit.
It marks Manzi’s fourth win of the season—three of which have come on Italian soil. It’s also the fourteenth World Supersport victory of his career, and it brings him to a total of 50 podium finishes. With 9 podiums in 11 races in 2025, Manzi now holds a 62-point lead – matching his racing number – over his closest rival in the World Supersport Championship. In Race 2, Manzi will start from second on the grid based on the fastest lap times recorded in Race 1.
Yuki Okamoto is racing at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the first time since 2019. Starting from 27th on the grid, the Japanese rider worked his way up to 24th in the first race of the weekend. For Okamoto, the focus this weekend is primarily on gaining more track time on the R9 with the Pirelli tyres.

“Fortunately I had a very good start and I moved up many positions, but in turn 2 I had contact with another rider. After that moment I was in fifth positions so I told myself to keep calm, and see how I would be able to go towards the front as soon as possible. After a couple of laps I was already in third position so I tried to manage the race a bit, and after that I started my fight to be in the lead. My pace was good and after I took the lead, I was able to maintain this pace.After a while, Can started to battle me but I didn’t want to give up the position. Every time he passed me, I managed to answer straight back. The last couple of laps I was able to be in front, and finally I crossed the finish line first as well. It’s nice that my lead in the championship is now 62 points. I want to enjoy this moment but we have another race tomorrow, so we will focus on that. It was good to win today, but we need to check where we can improve and make sure we’re there again tomorrow.”
Yuki Okamoto (P24 / +37,272):

What a fantastic victory by Stefano. We already knew on Friday that he was incredibly fast, although it didn’t quite come together in Superpole. That’s why today brought out the best in him, and it’s clear that Stefano, the team, and the bike are all in top form at the moment. In my opinion, this was the best race of the year. For tomorrow, it’s important to fine-tune the details. We’re going to try a few things in the warm-up, and hopefully we can take another step forward. Fortunately, Stefano will start from second place tomorrow, so the starting position is better than it was today. It was a tough day for Yuki, although there were certainly some positives that we’ll build on. We’ll also try a few things with him in the warm-up so he can approach certain aspects with a fresh perspective, and hopefully both riders can go on the attack tomorrow.”
After a warm-up session in the morning, the second World Supersport race at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will get underway again on Sunday afternoon at 12:35h.
Magnifieke Manzi vecht zich naar thuisoverwinning op zonnig Misano
Stefano Manzi heeft zaterdagmiddag de eerste World Supersport race gewonnen op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. De Italiaan kwam vanaf de tiende plaats op de grid sterk naar voren en wist uiteindelijk de race te winnen na een aantal stevige duels. Met deze vierde overwinning van het jaar vergroot de Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing coureur zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap naar 62 punten. Teamgenoot Yuki Okamoto werd 24e in Race 1.
Doordat de Superpole sessie op vrijdagmiddag niet volgens plan verliep moest Stefano Manzi in Race 1 vanaf de tiende plaats beginnen. Het bracht de Italiaan niet van de wijs want na een zeer goede start en een ijzersterke openingsronde schoof hij al meteen op naar de derde plaats. Vervolgens hield Manzi zijn hoofd koel waarna hij in de zevende ronde voor het eerst de leiding overnam. De kopgroep bleef dicht bij elkaar en er werd fel gestreden, maar Manzi kwam uiteindelijk als winnaar uit die strijd en passeerde de finishlijn op zijn thuiscircuit als eerste.
Het is de vierde overwinning van het seizoen voor Manzi waarvan drie op Italiaanse bodem. Het is alweer de veertiende World Supersport zege van zijn carrière en hiermee komt hij tevens op 50 podiumfinishes. Met 9 podiumfinishes in 11 races in 2025 heeft Manzi nu 62 punten voorsprong – zijn racenummer – op zijn naaste concurrent in het World Supersport kampioenschap. In Race 2 zal Manzi vanaf de tweede plaats starten aan de hand van de snelste rondetijden die zijn gereden in Race 1.
Yuki Okamoto rijdt dit weekend voor het eerst sinds 2019 weer op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli en kwam vanaf de 27e plaats op de grid uiteindelijk naar de 24e positie in deze eerste race van het weekend. Voor de Japanner is het dit weekend vooral zaak om meer kilometers te maken op de R9 met de Pirelli banden.

“Gelukkig had ik een hele goede start en kon ik veel posities goedmaken, maar in bocht 2 had ik contact met een andere coureur. Na dat moment lag ik op de vijfde plaats, dus zei ik tegen mezelf dat ik kalm moest blijven en probeerde te kijken hoe ik zo snel mogelijk naar voren kon komen. Na een paar ronden lag ik al op de derde plaats, dus probeerde ik de race een beetje te managen. Daarna begon ik mijn gevecht om de leiding. Mijn tempo was goed en nadat ik de leiding had genomen, kon ik dat tempo vasthouden.Na een tijdje begon Can met mij te vechten, maar ik wilde de positie niet opgeven. Elke keer dat hij me passeerde, kon ik meteen terugslaan. In de laatste paar ronden wist ik vooraan te blijven en uiteindelijk kwam ik ook als eerste over de finish. Het is fijn dat mijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap nu 62 punten is. Ik wil van dit moment genieten, maar we hebben morgen weer een race dus we richten ons daarop. Het was goed om vandaag te winnen, maar we moeten kijken waar we ons kunnen verbeteren en zorgen dat we er morgen weer staan.”
Yuki Okamoto (P24 / +37,272):
“Het was een moeilijke race vandaag. Er is nog veel ruimte voor verbetering, maar we werken eraan. Ik moet nog veel leren over de banden, het circuit en de motor. Ik weet dat de tijd beperkt is, maar ik wil morgen beter presteren.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“Wat een fantastische overwinning van Stefano. Op vrijdag wisten we al dat hij super snel, alleen kwam het er in de Superpole niet helemaal uit. Daardoor kwam vandaag het beste in hem naar boven en dan is te zien dat Stefano, het team en de motor allemaal in topvorm zijn op dit moment. Wat mij betreft was dit de mooiste race van het jaar. Voor morgen is het zaak om de puntjes op de i te zetten en we gaan nog wat dingen proberen in de warm up, hopelijk kunnen we dan nog een stapje maken. Gelukkig start Stefano morgen vanaf de tweede plaats, dus is de uitgangspositie beter dan die van vandaag. Voor Yuki was het een moeizame dag, al waren er uiteindelijk wel positieve punten waar we mee aan de slag gaan. Ook met hem zullen we morgenochtend wat proberen in de warm up zodat hij morgen een nieuwe kijk op bepaalde zaken kan krijgen, en beide mannen in de aanval kunnen.”
Na een warm up sessie in de ochtend zal de tweede World Supersport race op het Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli zondagmiddag opnieuw om 12:35 uur van start gaan.
