Stefano Manzi qualified thirteenth on Friday afternoon for the first World Supersport race at Circuito Estoril. His Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammate, Yuki Okamoto, will start Saturday afternoon’s opening race of the weekend from 28th position on the grid.
Under sunny and quite warm conditions, the eleventh round of 2025 got underway on Friday at Circuito Estoril. Stefano Manzi quickly found his pace in free practice, while for Yuki Okamoto it was mainly a matter of learning the track which, like many others this year, is new to him.
The Superpole session proved to be difficult for both Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing riders. Championship leader Manzi eventually set the thirteenth fastest lap time, which means he will start Race 1 from the middle of the fifth row on Saturday afternoon. However, the Italian has already shown several times this season that he is very strong at the start and excels in race conditions. In addition, the first World Supersport race will also be his first opportunity to secure the world title, depending on his rival’s finishing position.
Okamoto ended his first day at Circuito Estoril with the 28th fastest time in the Superpole session, placing him on the tenth row of the grid.
Stefano Manzi (P13 – 1’40.346 / +0,738):
“Today was completely opposite to what I expected, because I have good memories here from last year. Of course this year it is different with the R9 but it has been great from the beginning in the other rounds. This time we are struggling a bit more with finding the right setting, so I think we need to work hard tonight to find improvements. “I like this circuit but it is difficult for me. There are many blind corners and elevation changes, so I need a bit more time to learn the circuit. “It was an interesting first day for us in Estoril. The conditions are excellent and it’s a circuit we enjoy coming to, but today things didn’t go our way. We are far from the pace and the potential that Stefano has, so we will work hard on that. He clearly doesn’t yet have the right feeling with the bike, and it’s our job to give him that. For Yuki, this is once again a new track, but he is making progress every session and that’s what we want to see. It will be important for him to continue improving every session at yet another new European circuit.As we’ve shown more than once, as ‘Team Rocky’ we always bounce back and we already have a plan for tomorrow. We will work hard and are confident that we can perform better tomorrow.”
The first World Supersport race over 18 laps at Circuito Estoril will get underway on Saturday afternoon at 12:35 local time (13:35 Central European time).
Uitdagende vrijdag voor Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing in Estoril
Stefano Manzi heeft zich vrijdagmiddag als dertiende gekwalificeerd voor de eerste World Supersport race op het Circuito Estoril. Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teamgenoot Yuki Okamoto zal zaterdagmiddag vanaf de 28e startpositie aan de eerste race van het weekend beginnen.
Onder zonnige en behoorlijk warme omstandigheden begon vrijdag het elfde raceweekend van 2025 op het Circuito Estoril. Stefano Manzi wist zijn tempo in de vrije training meteen te vinden terwijl het voor Yuki Okamoto een kwestie was van het leren van het circuit dat voor hem, net als vele anderen dit jaar, nieuw is.
De Superpole sessie zou moeizaam verlopen voor beide Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing coureurs. WK leider Manzi noteerde uiteindelijk de dertiende rondetijd waardoor hij zaterdagmiddag vanaf het midden van de vijfde startrij aan Race 1 zal beginnen. De Italiaan heeft dit seizoen echter al meerdere malen laten zien dat hij zeer goed kan starten en het beste tot zijn recht komt in de races. Daarnaast zal de eerste World Supersport race de eerste mogelijkheid zijn om de wereldtitel binnen te halen, afhankelijk van de positie van zijn concurrent.
Okamoto sloot zijn eerste dag op het Circuito Estoril af met de 28e rondetijd in de Superpole sessie, waardoor hij op de tiende startrij zal staan.

“Vandaag verliep compleet anders dan ik had verwacht, omdat ik hier goede herinneringen aan vorig jaar heb. Natuurlijk is het dit jaar anders met de R9, maar vanaf het begin van de andere races was het erg goed. Dit keer hebben we wat meer moeite om de juiste afstelling te vinden, dus ik denk dat we vanavond hard moeten werken om verbeteringen door te voeren. Ik heb er vertrouwen in dat we morgen meer vooraan kunnen rijden en mee kunnen doen in de strijd.”Yuki Okamoto (P28 – 1’42.034 / +2,426):
“Ik vind dit een mooi circuit, maar het is moeilijk voor mij. Er zijn veel blinde bochten en hoogteverschillen, dus ik heb wat meer tijd nodig om het circuit te leren. Mijn schouder voelt beter aan dan tijdens het weekend in Aragón, dus ik zal morgen in staat zijn om hard te pushen.”Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing teammanager:
“Het was een interessante eerste dag voor ons in Estoril. De omstandigheden zijn uitstekend en het is een circuit waar we graag komen, maar vandaag viel het niet onze kant op. We zijn ver verwijderd van het tempo en het potentieel dat Stefano heeft dus daar gaan we hard aan werken. Hij heeft duidelijk nog niet het juiste gevoel met de machine dus het is aan ons om hem dat te geven. Voor Yuki is dit opnieuw een nieuw circuit, maar hij boekt iedere sessie progressie en dat is wat we willen zien. Het zal voor hem belangrijk zijn om iedere sessie sneller te zijn op wederom een nieuw Europees circuit.Zoals we al meer dan eens hebben laten zien komen we als ‘Team Rocky’ altijd terug en hebben we een plan voor morgen. We gaan hard aan het werk en weten zeker dat we morgen beter voor de dag zullen komen.”
De eerste World Supersport race over achttien ronden op het Circuito Estoril gaat zaterdagmiddag om 12:35 uur lokale tijd, 13:35 uur Nederlandse tijd van start.
